Some experiences live below words

Not all trauma announces itself as trauma. Sometimes it shows up as a tightness in the chest that has no medical explanation. A flinch response that doesn’t match the situation. A persistent sense that something is wrong, even when everything looks fine from the outside.

These aren’t signs of weakness or imagination. They’re signs that your body recorded an experience that your conscious mind couldn’t fully process at the time. The memory isn’t gone — it’s stored somatically, in the nervous system, in tension patterns, in reflexive responses that bypass rational thought.

Talk therapy is valuable, but it works primarily with the parts of experience that can be put into language. When the trauma is held in the body, you need an approach that can meet it there.

How we work with somatic trauma

We create what we call a containment field — a space safe enough for your subconscious to do something it hasn’t felt safe to do before: let go.

This isn’t about reliving the experience. We don’t ask you to narrate what happened or confront distressing images. The work is gentler than that. In hypnosis, we communicate with the nervous system directly, helping it recognize that the threat has passed and that the protective responses it’s been maintaining can be released.

The process respects your boundaries completely. You remain aware throughout. Nothing happens that you don’t consent to. Your subconscious sets the pace — we follow.

Some clients experience significant relief without ever explicitly discussing the traumatic event. The body can process and release what it’s been holding without the conscious mind needing to revisit every detail.

What this looks like in practice

Sessions begin with a conversation about how the trauma shows up now — not necessarily what caused it. We’re interested in the current pattern: the triggers, the physical sensations, the situations you avoid.

During the hypnotic work, we create the conditions for your nervous system to update its response. This might feel like a wave of warmth, a sudden release of tension, a shift in how a memory feels when you think of it. Each person’s experience is different.

After the session, we discuss what surfaced and plan next steps. Trauma work typically requires 4–8 sessions, though some clients feel meaningful shifts earlier. We never rush this work.

Important notes

This is not a replacement for crisis care. If you’re currently in acute psychological distress, please contact your GP or a crisis line first. Our work is most effective when you have basic stability and are ready to address what’s been held beneath the surface.

We work alongside other therapies. If you’re seeing a psychologist or psychiatrist, we’re happy to coordinate. Hypnotherapy for trauma is complementary, not competitive, with other modalities.

The “adult” dimensions matter here. Some somatic trauma involves intimacy, sexuality, or bodily experiences that are difficult to discuss in conventional settings. We name this openly because shame about the body’s experience is often part of what keeps trauma locked in place. Our approach meets these dimensions with professionalism and without judgment.

Common questions

Is it safe to do trauma work with hypnosis? Yes, when done by a trained practitioner who respects pacing. We never force anything. Your subconscious has its own safety mechanisms, and we work with them, not against them.

What if I don’t remember the traumatic event? That’s common and not a barrier. The body remembers even when the conscious mind doesn’t. We work with the current pattern, not necessarily the origin story.

Will I cry or feel overwhelmed? Some emotional release is natural and healthy. But overwhelm is not the goal — resolution is. We monitor your state throughout and can adjust the depth of work at any moment.
